Chicago Skyway Toll Bridge: A Guide to Payment Methods and More

A Historical Landmark with Modern Conveniences

Constructed in 1958 by the City of Chicago, the Chicago Skyway Toll Bridge, commonly referred to as the Skyway, is a towering testament to engineering ingenuity. As a vital transportation artery, it seamlessly connects the city's bustling downtown with the southeastern suburbs.

Accepted Payment Methods

To ensure a smooth and efficient transit experience, the Skyway has implemented a variety of payment options for its tolls. Motorists can utilize the following methods:

  • I-PASS: An electronic toll collection system that allows for contactless payment
  • E-ZPass: Another electronic toll collection system compatible with the Skyway
  • Cash: Accepted at toll booths for manual payment

Please note that toll rates may vary depending on the time of day and method of payment.

Recent Updates and Important Information

As of September 13, 2022, at 6:04 pm, the Skyway announced an upcoming change in payment methods. Effective September 22, 2022, at 3:36 pm, cash payments will no longer be accepted at the toll booths. Motorists will need to use I-PASS or E-ZPass for electronic toll collection or pay online through the Skyway's website.
